The Sussex Heart Charity have agreed funding of £10,000 for production of Cardioholics ™ a Cardiac and health workout DVD and manual,
Every year 200,000 people die of heart and circulatory disease in the UK. There are already 2.3 million people who have been diagnosed with diabetes and a further 500,000 who are blissfully unaware that they have this disease. In addition to these shocking facts – Government statistics predict that by 2050 nine out of ten people in the UK will be classed as obese.
This DVD is based on the proven results from BSUH Trust phase III cardiac rehabilitation programme, and Phase IV pioneered by Richard Stantiford. The aim is to increase the fitness of all those at risk and to improve the general fitness of the wider population. The DVD would inspire teams in offices, schools and other workplaces around the country to join in and get fit, thus preventing this epidemic of disease.

The Sussex Heart Charity have agreed funding of £20,000 as requested by Dr Mark Signey. This will be used for the purchase of a lifestyle cardiac conferencing system for use in Worthing hospitals. Dr Mark Signy, Consultant Cardiologist , explained how the conferencing system works.
“The Lifestream conferencing system has been developed with the involvement of Eastbourne cardiac dept and Mr Jonathan Hyde (cardiac surgeon at Brighton) to allow full interactive conferencing between cardiac and cardiac surgical departments on different sites. This had previously been impossible to achieve satisfactorily with existing videoconferencing systems due to the inability to simultaneously transmit and play DICOM coded catheter films (DICOM is the industry standard for storing these images). The new system, via the NHS web, allows several departments simultaneously to videoconference and play the recorded films in real time thus allowing Multidisciplinary meetings to occur properly with participants on multiple sites. It is also quick and flexible enough to allow quick one off conferencing with surgical colleagues during complex cases in the cath lab.”
