The Sussex Heart Charity have agreed funding of £20,000 as requested by Dr Mark Signey. This will be used for the purchase of a lifestyle cardiac conferencing system for use in Worthing hospitals. Dr Mark Signy, Consultant Cardiologist , explained how the conferencing system works.
“The Lifestream conferencing system has been developed with the involvement of Eastbourne cardiac dept and Mr Jonathan Hyde (cardiac surgeon at Brighton) to allow full interactive conferencing between cardiac and cardiac surgical departments on different sites. This had previously been impossible to achieve satisfactorily with existing videoconferencing systems due to the inability to simultaneously transmit and play DICOM coded catheter films (DICOM is the industry standard for storing these images). The new system, via the NHS web, allows several departments simultaneously to videoconference and play the recorded films in real time thus allowing Multidisciplinary meetings to occur properly with participants on multiple sites. It is also quick and flexible enough to allow quick one off conferencing with surgical colleagues during complex cases in the cath lab.”
