 In 2010,  10 year old Preston Freeman ran the Grand Hotel Mini Mile in aid of our charity. Preston was born with congenital heart defects and wasn’t expected to survive. After undergoing numerous operations he now lives a relatively normal life; what better way to demonstrate the fantastic work carried out then to see him cross the finish line.

We  would like to take this opportunity of thanking you our past runners listed below, that have run the Brighton Marathon in support of the Sussex Heart Charity. 

 This charity has been at the forefront of cardiac care, helping to enhance and improve care and treatment of cardiac patients in Sussex for over 20 years.  The equipment that we purchase has been new and innovative and has enabled the development of new services at the Sussex Cardiac Centre. We now have a cardiac service that provides better treatment and better and faster recovery for cardiac patients    

Well done to you all and thank you once again for your invaluable support

The Sussex Heart Charity would like to thank Brightona Charity Riders Trustees and  committee members  for organising and running Brightona to raise funds for the Sussex Heart Charity.  

 This Annual Motorcycle rally is now the biggest charity motorcyle event in the south of England

There will be a custom bike show, live music (3 stages) and lots of street entertainment and not forgetting some amazing motorcycles this is a family day out come along and enjoy the day and drop a few coins in our collection buckets.

Each year we at the Sussex Heart Charity organise a sponsored fun walk from Brighton Marina to the Peace statue Hove, and back again (5 Miles in total).  This year’s walk will be on Sunday 13^th May starting at 10:00am outside the BowlPlex at Brighton Marina this will be the 20^th year of organising this walk. 

 This funds raised from this event will be used to support community based projects and cardiac services at the Sussex cardiac centre.

Many of the walkers that take part are Cardiac patients that have either had cardiac surgery, suffered a heart attack or any other cardiac events.   Each year the numbers of participants has continues to grow, with many walkers coming back each year bringing along their families and friends.

Each year during may Waterhall Golf Club organises a gala golf weekend to raise money for the Sussex Heart Charity

We would like to say  a big thank and well done to all the staff and members of Waterhall Golf Club and golfers from other local clubs that took part Your support has raised £3,770 .

Every year 200,000 people die of heart and circulatory disease in the UK. There are already 2.3 million people who have been diagnosed with diabetes and a further 500,000 who are blissfully unaware that they have this disease. In addition to these shocking facts – Government statistics predict that by 2050 nine out of ten people in the UK will be classed as obese.

This DVD is based on Phase IV pioneered by Richard Stantiford. The aim of our funding this project is to increase awareness of the benifts of improving and  maintaining the  general fitness of all those at risk and the wider population.

It is vital that all members of the community learn these skills. The knowledge and skills you will learn on a resuscitation course are of great importance. It may be that, one day, the only thing that stands between life and death of a colleague, friend or a member of your family are the skills acquired during a resuscitation course. The cost is £14, children or students under 18 free

• The early recognition of a heart attack and how to respond
• How to check if they are breathing and what to do if they are not
• How to recognise absence of respirations and Cardiac Arrest
• Instruction in how to administer chest compressions and rescue breathing
• How to deal with an unconscious person.
• How to control severe bleeding and other life threatening conditions

Sussex Heart Charity was chosen to be part of the Waitrose Community Matters Scheme.  Shoppers are given a token every time they shop at Waitrose and are then able to put the token to any one of the 3 charities nominated each month, this scheme is operated at all branches and is designed to help put a share of Waitrose profits back into loca charities in the community, the amount allocated from each (large) store per month is £1,000 this is then divided proportionally between the three nominated charities.

Suzette Ford nominated the Sussex Heart Charity because her partner Paul  had recently suffered a cardiac event and had to undergo cardiac surgery. Suzette said ”Paul has made a fantastic progress, I had seen the leaflet about the charity in the cardiac unit at the Sussex Cardiac Centre and because of the care that he had received I wanted to put something back”.   Thanks to this fantastic gesture by Suzette and the shopper at Waitrose we received a very generous £530.00 donation

“I am running the Brighton Half Marathon to raise money for the Sussex Heart Charity, in memory of Will Pitcher who sadly passed away on March 8th 2011 of a suspected heart attack. Will was a best friend to me, and indeed many others. He was a beautiful, big hearted man always with a big smile on his face. He was adored by everyone who knew him and his passing at the tender age of 29 was a shock to friends, family, work colleagues and anyone who had had the pleasure of meeting him. My friends recently took part in the London to Brighton bike ride to raise money for the charity in his memory but I cannot ride a bike! I therefore decided to put my passion for running to good use instead. I hope I can make him proud.”
